West Virginia native Kayla Slone’s life changed when her friend filmed her singing at work, where she was a cashier at Walmart. Standing behind her cash register and wearing her Walmart name tag, Slone beautifully sang Dolly Parton’s “Coat of Many Colors“.
Slone hails from a small town in West Virginia and had never been on a plane before traveling to New York to be on Cooper’s show. She admitted that she wants to take her singing career to the next level so her husband, a coal miner, won’t have to work in the mines anymore.
The cherry on top of the cake? She was invited to sing at the Grand Ole Opry. She stood in the historic Opry Circle in front of a sold-out crowd to sing the Loretta Lynn classic, “Coal Miner’s Daughter”.
Her classic country-sounding voice was a perfect match for this song, and even got encouragement from Lynn herself.
People went crazy for her cover, especially since her voice sounds eerily similar to Parton’s! She was immediately asked to be interviewed on the local news, made an appearance on Anderson Cooper’s show Anderson Live, where she was asked to attend the 2013 ACM Awards by country star Dierks Bentley.
