This year Love Island took a different approach to their casting. The islanders this year aren’t just a group of pretty faces and washboard abs, they come from various life experiences. This season features a single mom, a queer woman, and an unconventional cowboy, among others.

As soon as the islanders entered the villa, it was revealed that the two cast members already knew each other. Day trader Chelley Bissainthe had already met social media personality Ace Greene outside a nightclub in New York. Whether the two having met before turns out to be fate, or a giant mistake, it’s going to make for an interesting dynamic to watch throughout the season. It was no surprise that the two coupled up.

Having Huda Mustafa in the villa, a young single mom, offers representation not usually seen on Love Island. Moms deserve to find love too! Huda’s energy is electric, and I was instantly intrigued by her. She is drop-dead gorgeous, which is why I knew she was going to choose to couple up with male model Jerimiah BrownThe two are giving Leah Kateb and Miguel Harichi energy — but maybe I’m speaking too soon.

Belle-A Walker is a more confusing person than the spelling of her name and I’m not sure that she understands what she signed up for. She declines to participate in the kissing challenge to couple up, and instead offers her cheek for a peck from the men. I respect that she has boundaries, but you’re on Love Island, not The Bachelor. She ends up pairing with Nic Vansteenberghe, a curly-headed cutie who just so happens to be a nurse.

Olandria Carthen is a Southern girl at heart. Bringing her Southern charm from Alabama to the villa, of course she pairs up with cowboy Taylor Williams. I’m sure he will ride his way right into her heart. The two are perfect for each other, both coming from the south and wanting to live the small-town farm life.

But then there’s Yulissa Escobar, who was trouble from the moment she walked in. She takes Ace from Chelley, who is now forced to match with Austin Shepard, a pool boy of all things. Following the release of the season premiere, Yulissa was kicked off the island because of clips that resurfaced on social media of her using racial slurs in a podcast. What a way to kick off the season. With a fresh batch of promising contestants (minus Yulissa), I think we are in for an action-packed season.

Are We Going to Get The Next “PPG” on ‘Love Island’ Season 7?

Season 6 of Love Island saw one of the most iconic friendships ever, so powerful they overshadowed the couples. Leah, JaNa Craig, and Serena Paige became fast friends in the villa. Their unwavering loyalty and support for one another, coupled with their unmatched sense of humor made them the dynamic trio of the villa and fan favorites. Viewers weren’t gushing over the season’s relationships, they were obsessed with their friendship. The three call themselves “PPG” which stands for Power Puff Girls — and that’s exactly what they are. Confident, empowering women.

Is it possible that we’ll get the next “PPG” this season? Chelley and Olandria were the first two to enter the villa, and instantly hit it off from the moment they met. Their immediate banter and chemistry gave me the feeling that they are on their way to becoming another iconic Love Island duo — and I’m not talking about the couples.

Host Ariana Madix Threw Curveballs At The Contestants From The Get-Go

What would this new era of Love Island be without Ariana Madix returning as host? Ariana made yet another iconic slo-mo entrance into the villa, sparkling in a netted crystal dress and rocking long blonde extensions. Ariana wasted no time throwing curveballs at the contestants, letting them in on a never-before-seen twist. Instead of the usual coupling-up format, the male contestants will stand on a platform while the girls’ names are drawn one by one. Each woman gets the chance to kiss two guys before deciding who she wants to pair up with. The shady part of the twist — stealing is allowed. Ariana also threw in a flirty blindfold game for the contestants, right before introducing the first bombshells of the season. With this many twists and turns already in play this early into the season, I knew we are in for a roller coaster. One so exhilarating, it may steal Season 6’s crown.
